THUNDER BAY -- The Thunder Bay Parking Authority is looking at establishing paid parking for visitors to Prince Arthur's Landing.

Supervisor Jonathan Paske said the idea is in the discussion stage and will be presented to the community at an Open House next week.

"We'll be presenting an overview of a proposed plan and gathering public feedback in order to be included in a report to be presented to city council,"  Paske told tbnewswatch.com.

In a news release announcing the open house, the city says the aim is to improve parking availability on the waterfront.

"With an increased use at the waterfront, and planned development, we've seen a need to implement some form of parking management strategy," Paske said.

Paske said one of the issues is that some visitors are parking their vehicles for lengthy periods.

He said if paid parking is implemented, it will include all of Prince Arthur's Landing including the new parking lot under development south of the condominium towers.

The public meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 2 in Mariners Hall at Prince Arthur's Landing.

Several senior city officials will accompany Paske for the presentation.
