Pedestrian dies after highway crash

Police in Kenora are investigating a highway crash that killed a pedestrian Sunday.

Officers from the Kenora detachment of the OPP, with assistance from the traffic collision investigation unit, are looking into the fatal motor vehicle collision that took place around 4 a.m. on Sunday, July 10.

Police say just before then, a pedestrian was struck by a transport truck on Highway 71 near Fickas Road in Sioux Narrows.

Dayton Kavanaugh, 25, of Northwest Angle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Highway 71 was closed until about noon on Sunday as police investigated the incident.

The investigation continues.
