SHUNIAH, Ont -- A driver is facing criminal charges after a pedestrian was struck and killed at the intersection of Highway 11/17 and Highway 587 in Shuniah..
Ontario provincial police said the tragedy occurred at about 10 p.m. on Saturday night.
The driver of the vehicle, whose name was not yet released, was charged with operation causing death. They suffered minor injuries.
The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The highway was closed at Lakeshore Drive in order to facilitate the ongoing investigation.
