Police close down section of Cumberland Street, witness says pedestrian struck by truck

THUNDER BAY -- A 43-year-old male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed Saturday night on Cumberland Street North.

The incident occurred near the intersection at River Street at approximately 8:50 p.m. Police, in a release, say the victim was transported to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police, who shut down a section of Cumberland Street between River and Wolseley streets, have not said whether or not charges will be laid in the case, saying no further information will be released at this time.

A pick-up truck remained within the cordoned off area while the police investigation continued, several plastic bags strewn on the pavement in front of the vehicle.

Thunder Bay police are asking drivers to avoid the area at this time.
