THUNDER BAY -- It appears at-large Coun. Peng You has bigger political ambitions than Thunder Bay city hall.

The Ontario Progressive Conservative Party on Tuesday night tweeted congratulations to the first-term representative, for accepting the nomination to run for the party in Thunder Bay-Superior North

You swept into one of five at-large seats in the 2018 municipal election, topping all candidates in the race with 20,346 votes, 5,600 more than his nearest competitor, incumbent Aldo Ruberto.

The provincial election is scheduled for June 2022, but there has been speculation that Premier Doug Ford may call an early vote, fuelled in part by the fact the Conservatives have nominated candidates in most ridings.

Liberal MPP Michael Gravelle, first elected in 1995, currently holds the seat. Gravelle has indicated he plans to run again in the next provincial election.

It marks the first time You, a well-known Thunder Bay businessman and martial artist, has entered the provincial political fray.
