Permits needed to burn within city limits: firefighters

The warmer weather means the dangers of wild fire increase every day so residents should burn with care, say city firefighters.

Firefighters with Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue are reminding residents that fires started within city limits require a burning permit. With the warmer weather, the surrounding areas become drying and the chances for wildfires increase.

Permits are available at any fire station in the city or online at the Thunder Bay website.
Residents can open burn clean-cut brush and vegetation only during the evening hours and recreational fires are from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Firefighters say they will monitor the dryness conditions daily but can put a stop to any burning in the city if warranted. Firefighters urge permit holders to check with the media for any new information.
