Pet owners face thousands of dollars in fines after dog attack

A Thunder Bay couple has been slapped with some hefty fines for giving their dogs too much freedom. Tickets totaling $4,000 have been issued for allowing their dogs to run freely.

A Thunder Bay couple has been slapped with some hefty fines for giving their dogs too much freedom.

Tickets totaling $4,000 have been issued for allowing their dogs to run freely.

Licensing and Enforcement Manager Ron Bourret said authorities were notified when one of the dogs attacked a neighbour’s smaller dog.

“The by-law is in place for this reason,” he told CKPR Radio Thursday. “Notwithstanding, we’ve had children as well (involved) in some serious attacks.”

Bourret added that the owner's of the injured dog have spent $4,000 on vet bills since the incident happened back in June.
