Pharmacist continues fight against drug plan changes

A Thunder Bay pharmacist is ramping up her opposition to the province's changes to the Ontario Drug Benefit Plan.

Janzen's Pharmacy owner Brenda Adams brought in representatives of the Ontario Pharmacists' Association Thursday to defend pharmacies and help inform the public about what is really going on.

They say the $1.1 billion cutbacks to generic drug allowances works out to a loss of about $300,000 per pharmacy in Ontario.

Adams said any independent pharmacies rely on professional allowances to provide services such as free delivery, patient counseling and medication checks. Adams said her customers are aware of the government cutbacks and are supporting her efforts.

Adams said in spite of the cutbacks, she does not plan to lay off any staff and will move ahead with opening a second Janzen's location in Westfort in the fall.
