THUNDER BAY – A major telecommunications outage affecting a number of city customers appears to be linked to a watermain break.

Tbaytel said the Monday afternoon interruption to a number of their services is due to work being done to repair a Memorial Avenue watermain break. Tbaytel said its technicians are aware of the issue and are awaiting clearance to access the site and assess the outage.

The estimated time to restore service is unknown, Tbaytel adds.

City police are affected by the outage. The Thunder Bay Police Service said their non-emergency 684-1200 line is not in service as a result.

The 911 emergency line is working, but intermittent issues could occur. Anyone who dials 911 and fails to connect is asked to try again immediately.

Police say Tbaytel is working to resolve the issue.
