Police have released photographs of the suspect involved in a pair of armed convenience store robberies over the weekend.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service released details Sunday that a masked man had entered the Mac's on North May Street at about 9 p.m. Saturday, pulled out a needle and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Four hours later a similar incident occurred at the Mac's at 747 Simpson St.

In both instances the suspect fled the scene on foot and police called in the K-9 unit to help with the search.

Police say the suspect in both robberies is described as standing between five feet, and five-feet-six-inches tall. The suspect was said to have a thin build.

The suspect wore a dark hoodie and a half white skull mask during the robbery, which can be seen in the police-released surveillance photographs.

A syringe was used during the robberies.

Police say the gender of the suspect is unknown at this time.

Earlier this week, Mac’s vice-president of operations Tom Moher arrived in Thunder Bay to discuss a strategy to combat these kinds of robberies. From changing the layout of the store to making it more open for having cameras, Moher said there are things the company has done but the problem will not have an overnight solution.

“You can’t stop those things,” Moher said in an earlier interview with tbnewswatch.com “You can put in various prevention measures but for us it’s fantastic for us to have seen those apprehension rates increase like that.”

Police are asking anyone with information about the robberies to contact them or Crime Stoppers at 623-8477.
