THUNDER BAY – A local long-term care home celebrated its 30th anniversary on Thursday.

Pioneer Ridge Long-Term Care and Senior Services hosted staff, residents, their families, and representatives from the city on May 9 in celebration of its 30th year of operation.

Lee Mesic, administrator at Pioneer Ridge, said she’s proud of the work the organization has done and is looking forward to see what comes in the future as it continues to grow.

“I feel that Pioneer Ridge has endured many challenges and still been able to reach these milestones with successes and with an ongoing desire to improve our quality of care for the residents that we serve and the community that we serve,” Mesic said.

“I can tell you that as part of that, Pioneer Ridge this summer is embarking on a new journey, a cultural change where we are going to adopt an emotional-based model of care over the institutional model that has been long standing in most health-care organizations.”

Mayor Ken Boshcoff attended the celebration and said this important milestone shows the importance of long-term care in the city.

“We have to take care of those who took care of us. How you treat those who took care of you is a testimony to your own society and our own country,” he said. “I think as a municipality, we are doing a stellar job. There's a great team of people here.”
