THUNDER BAY -- Thunder Bay OPP charged a 19-year-old city man after a weekend incident at a gravel pit in Gorham Township.

Police say officers were dispatched to a location off Tasa Road after a complaint was called in about a "pit party" that was in progress.

While officers were speaking to participants and advising them to leave the area, they noticed the odour of alcohol on the driver of an all-terrain vehicle.

He initially complied with a request to provide a breath sample, but then ran back to his ATV and attempted to drive away.

According to the OPP, a struggle ensued when the man resisted and continued efforts to flee.

He was subsequently charged with multiple offences including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, mischief, resisting a peace officer, failure to provide a breath sample and failure to comply with a probation order.
