Plane goes down east of Marathon

Police say single-engine aircraft crashed late Wednesday night.

MARATHON, Ont. – A single engine aircraft crashed late Wednesday night east of Marathon.

Ontario Provincial Police, in a release issued on Friday, say they learned of the crash on Thursday afternoon and the crash site was located by the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre and Search and Rescue technicians.

According to police, the plane was a rental from Ann Arbor, Mich.

The crash is now being investigated by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada as well as a number of OPP unit.

Police have not indicated how many passengers were on board or their condition.

Note: OPP originally said the crash occurred late Tuesday, then updated media with information it actually happened on Wednesday night.
