THUNDER BAY -- Halfway Motors is asking the public to prepare for some off-roading in the fall time.

The 5 Aces ATV Fall Classic Poker Run will be held on September 8, and details for the event have been released.

The run will start at Mount Baldy and take people on a there-and-back route that reaches as far as East Loon Lake.

Event organizer John Trevisanutto called last year’s debut event a success with a total of 225 riders participating, and raised roughly $17,000 for Kids Count. This year they’re expecting more.

“In order to motivate people, we’re giving away a $10,000 Can-am Outlander to the top pledge-earner,” Trevisanutto said.

There’s also a total of $1,750 in prize money for the riders with the best poker hand.

All money raised will go directly to the charity Our Kids Count.

“To have organizations step up and do a third-party event for us, it means a lot,” executive director Gladys Beringer.

Our Kids Count helps build stronger families and communities by improving lives through personal growth and development.

Halfway Motors is hoping to raise between $30- to 40-thousand dollars for the charity this time around.

“Our numbers continue to rise… last year we had over 1,800 adults and children [use our service]. This kind of money will help ensure that we can meed their needs,” Beringer said.

People interested  are invited to a pre-registration barbeque on Thursday, July 19.
