Police arrest armed robbery suspect

Thunder Bay Police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection to an armed robbery of an Arthur Street convenience store, a second suspect remains at large

The Thunder Bay Police Service has arrested an accused connected to a recent armed robbery of a convenience store. 

Officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were originally dispatched to the Circle K convenience store on 1315 Arthur Street East on the morning of Saturday, Nov. 30 following reports of an armed robbery involving two suspects armed with long guns. 

Police learned the suspects pointed the firearms at the convenience store clerk while making demands for money and store merchandise. 

The suspects fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and store merchandise. 

The firearms believed to have been used in this robbery were later located and seized by police. 

As a result of an ongoing investigation by members of the service’s Community Response Team (CRT), one of the two suspects involved in this incident was identified. 

At about 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6 CRT investigators located and arrested the suspect. 

Skylar WANAKAMIK, 18, of Thunder Bay is charged with: 

• Robbery Using a Firearm 
• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm 
• Possession of a Firearm Knowledge its Possession is Unauthorized 
• Pointing a Firearm 
• Disguise with Intent 
• Possession of Firearm Obtained by Crime 

WANAKAMIK appeared in bail court Saturday, Dec. 7 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date of Monday, Dec. 9. 

A second suspect involved in this armed robbery remains at large. The investigation is ongoing.
