THUNDER BAY - A 43-year-old-male of no fixed address was arrested on multiple charges after police found a man who appeared to be sleeping in his vehicle.
Officers with the police's uniform patrol division were dispatched to check on the welfare of a man who appeared to be sleeping in his vehicle in the Grenveille Avenue and Lillian Street area just before 7:30 a.m. on Friday.
When officers arrived they located a male who appeared to be sleeping in his vehicle with the ignition running.
Officers noticed the male showed multiple signs of impairment. A standardized field sobriety test was conducted, the results of which led to his subsequent arrest. He was brought to the Thunder Bay Police Service headquarters for further testing by a Drug Recognition Expert.
During the officers’ investigation they located cannabis paraphernalia, methamphetamine paraphernalia, a suspected stolen driver’s licence and two suspected stolen debit cards. Officers also located a rifle in the rear seat of the vehicle. Neither the vehicle’s driver nor passenger had a firearm licence.
A 35-year-old Saskatoon woman passenger was subsequently arrested.
Both face charges of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of two stolen credit cards, and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
The 43-year-old male was additionally charged with impaired operation of a vehicle by alcohol and drugs, and non-compliance of a probation order.
Both are expected to appear in court Saturday.
