A man and woman have been arrested and charged following a daylight robbery in the parking lot of a south-side grocery store Wednesday.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers say they believe a pair of suspects was involved in the robbery of a 58-year-old woman in the parking lot of the Metro grocery store at 505 Arthur Street West. Police say the alleged victim was walking to her vehicle just after noon when she was knocked to the ground by a male suspect.
The accused man ran off with the victim’s purse and jumped into a waiting vehicle that police believe was being driven by a female suspect.
A grocery store employee who was attempting to assist the victim of the robbery was then allegedly struck by the suspect’s vehicle as the pair tried to flee the scene.
Both the store employee and robbery victim sustained minor injuries.
Police stopped a vehicle on Balsam Street and Highway 11/17 about 20 minutes later. The vehicle and occupants matched descriptions given to officers at the scene of the robbery.
As a result of the traffic stop police arrested a 40-year-old Kingston, Ont. man and a 42-year-old Winnipeg woman.
The couple now faces multiple charges including robbery, possession of stolen property, dangerous driving and assault with a weapon.
Both suspects are expected to make a court appearance Thursday.
The two suspects were also in possession of a stolen vehicle from Winnipeg.
