Police arrest robbery suspect in three minutes

Police arrest man matching description of Simpson Street Mac's robbery suspect moments after call comes in.

THUNDER BAY – It took city police just three minutes to apprehend a suspect in a recent Mac’s Convenience Store robbery.

In a release issued on Monday morning, police say Friday at 9:22 p.m. they received a report of a robbery, after a male entered the company’s Simpson Street store and attempted to rob the store clerks.

At 9:25 p.m. the investigating officers located a male matching the description of the suspect and took him into custody.

Blake Nicholas Kowalchuk, 33, is facing charges of robbery, two counts of uttering threats and failing to comply with the conditions of an undertaking.

The suspect appeared in court and was remanded into custody. He’s expected to be back in court on Monday.
