THUNDER BAY — Police found and arrested a suspect in a murder case from a year ago while searching a south side home.
The Thunder Bay Police Service said officers were involved in an unrelated search of a James Street home Thursday morning, where they found 22-year-old Ocean Trinity Ayodeji.
Ayodeji, who is said to have no fixed address, had been identified as a suspect in the death of Tyrese Belmore of Sioux Lookout more than a year ago.
In that case, police had been contacted during the early morning hours of June 1, 2022, after a man had been admitted to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with serious injuries. The victim later died in hospital from those injuries.
The resulting investigation led to the identification of an address on Shipley Street and another on Brock Street East being associated with the incident.
Ayodeji is expected to face a second-degree murder charge. He was also charged with two counts of cocaine trafficking, one count of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
He appeared in bail court on Thursday and remains in custody.
The charges have yet to be tested in court.
