THUNDER BAY — Police have arrested a suspect for a robbery that involved what they describe as a "crudely made Molotov cocktail."

Thunder Bay police said the 57-year-old accused was arrested on Thursday, following a robbery at McKellar Confectionery on the morning of Feb. 25.

Police said the suspect entered the southside business and pointed a knife at staff before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The police service's break and enter and robbery unit became involved in the investigation, which also found that the suspect attempted to use the Molotov cocktail.

The accused, Miles Scott Alanen of Thunder Bay, is charged with robbery with a weapon, disguise with intent, placing or throwing an explosive substance, and assault with a weapon.

Alanen appeared in court on Friday and remains in custody with a future appearance date.

The charges have yet to be tested in court.
