THUNDER BAY — Thunder Bay Police assigned officers to the city's Mapleward Road landfill site on the weekend to look for people making dump runs in an unsafe manner.
Police checked more than 150 vehicles entering the site on Saturday, but laid only two charges for insecure loads.
A number of motorists were also given advice on how to better secure and cover the loads in their pickup trucks or trailers.
According to police, "It is illegal to carry a load on a vehicle or trailer unless it is loaded, bound, secured, contained or covered so that no portion of the load may become dislodged or fall, leak, spill or blow from the vehicle."
Police say placing a piece of wood on top of a bunch of smaller branches, or carrying a single large heavy item held down by gravity alone does not meet the requirements.
In addition to the two charges laid for insecure loads, police on Saturday ticketed several drivers for various other infractions.
