MARATHON, Ont. - A man who aggressively drove through a RIDE stop in Marathon, forcing officers off the road, didn't evade police for long. The 34 year-old local resident is now facing impaired driving and dangerous driving charges, among others.

OPP officers from the Marathon detachment who had set up a RIDE check on Peninsula Road first noticed the driver when his pickup truck made contact with a snowbank multiple times as he pulled out of the parking lot of nearby bar. In a release, the OPP says the driver "aggressively accelerated towards the RIDE, forcing officers off the roadway."

Officers located the driver in a parking lot, with the engine still running, along the same road shortly afterwards. He now faces multiple charges related to impaired driving, having a blood alcohol concentration of over 80 milligrams, dangerous driving, having care of a vehicle with an open liquor container, and failing to wear a seat belt.

The driver was released on a promise to appear with a court date of March 11, 2020.
