Police charge motorist with stunt driving, issue 14 other tickets during Oliver Road blitz

Police have charged a motorist with stunt driving following a speed enforcement blitz on Oliver Road Monday.

Police have charged a motorist with stunt driving following a speed enforcement blitz on Oliver Road Monday.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say a single officer conducted the speed enforcement on Oliver Road in front of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. In four hours that officer ticketed 15 drivers going more than 20 km/h above the posted speed limit.

Police say one of the motorists caught speeding was travelling 100 km/h – double the speed limit of the community safety zone the driver was racing through.

Police have charged that driver with speeding and stunt driving. As a result, the driver has had his vehicle impounded for seven days.

If convicted on all charges, the driver could face $2,700 in fines, and 12 demerit points on his licence. The driver is also on the hook for the $300 towing and impound fees.

Police say that stretch of Oliver Road was chosen for their enforcement blitz because it is close to the location of a recent serious collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian.
