THUNDER BAY — A 25-year-old faces child pornography charges after a police investigation began in the summer.

Thunder Bay police said the cyber crimes unit started an investigation in July into child sexual abuse material being uploaded by a suspected local internet user.

The investigation led to police executing a search warrant at a home in the 100 block of Essex Court on Aug. 24, where they seized an electronic device that appeared to have files consistent with child pornography.

Investigators then identified a potential suspect and local address.

The accused, 25-year-old Ian James Cuninghame, is charged with possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography.

He appeared in bail court on Friday and was released with conditions and a future appearance date.

The charges have yet to be tested in court.
