MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – The province’s Special Investigations Unit has ended in investigation into a fall of a 19-year-old woman from a Thunder Bay apartment unit.

City police were called to the scene at about 11 p.m. on Oct. 15 to follow up on a report of a domestic dispute taking place at the apartment building, located in the area of Algoma Street North and River Street.

After knocking on the door of the third-floor unit and getting no response, police forced their way into the residence and arrested a man. The woman, also located inside the apartment, jumped out of the bedroom window and landed on the ground below.

She was taken to hospital for treatment of her injuries suffered in the fall.

“The woman admitted that she was injured after jumping out of a window as the police officers lawfully entered the premises to check on her well-being. Their actions were both lawful and reasonable. Accordingly, this investigation has been terminated,” said SIU direct Tony Loparco.

The SIU invokes its mandate to take over an investigation any time police are involved in a report that leads to a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
