Police close highway after gas line rupture

Police and fire crews in Oliver-Paipoonge were rushed into action late Tuesday afternoon due to a broken natural gas line. The three-quarter inch pipe ruptured along Wing Road, just off Highway 11-17, at about 3:30 p.m.

The three-quarter inch pipe ruptured along Wing Road, just off Highway 11-17, at about 3:30 p.m. Oliver-Paipoonge fire chief Mike Horan said heavy equipment was digging alongside the roadway when the incident occurred. Union Gas employees were on the scene to fix the leak.

Thunder Bay Police had the road blocked off for about 45 minutes for safety reasons before the line was repaired.
