Police continue to receive numerous election sign theft, vandalism reports

KENORA, ON) – Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have received numerous calls since the onset of the federal election regarding the damage and theft of candidate signs throughout the area.

KENORA, ON) – Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have received numerous calls since the onset of the federal election regarding the damage and theft of candidate signs throughout the area.  These incidents include the City of Kenora and the surrounding area as well as signs on the Highways throughout the riding.

The OPP would like to remind the public that it is an offence to remove or damage official election signs.  Persons found damaging or removing signs can face charges under the Criminal Code. 

Further, according the Canada Elections Act:  “No person shall prevent or impair the transmission to the public of an election advertising message without the consent of a person with authority to authorize its transmission.”

Anyone with information about the election signs that have been damaged or stolen is asked to call the Kenora OPP 807-548-5534 or CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)
