THUNDER BAY - A man allegedly found in possession of a gas can near the scene of two more south side fires was arrested early Friday.

Thunder Bay Police were responding to a vehicle fire near Arthur Street and Syndicate Avenue at 4:05 a.m., when a female alerted them of a structural fire at a residence in the 200 block of South May Street.

Police evacuated three individuals out of the building, and attempted to extinguish the flames which were coming from the attached garage.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue arrived shortly after and extinguished the flames.

Minutes after the fire was extinguished, a crew of patrol officers located a male on Simpson Street in possession of a gas container.

Police said in a release that his description matched that of the individual leaving the initial vehicle fire.

The 33-year-old man has been charged with two counts of arson, two counts of breach of recognizance, and possession of incendiary material. He will appear in court tomorrow morning.

Fire prevention officer Kevin Anderson could not confirm if the incidents are connected to fires set Wednesday morning on Brodie and Archibald street.
