Police find stolen truck in ditch, arrest driver and passenger

(THUNDER BAY, ON) On January 10, 2017 at approximately 11:30 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on Highway 102.

When officers arrived at the scene, they observed a Dodge truck in the west bound ditch.

Upon further investigation, officers discovered the vehicle had been stolen earlier in the evening from a location in the City of Thunder Bay.

Also, as officers spoke with the driver, it was determined the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was transported to the detachment for further tests.

A 24-year-old Thunder Bay man was arrested and charged with: 

-Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code,

-Operate a Motor Vehicle With Over 80 mgs of Alcohol contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code,

-Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code.

A 35-year-old Thunder Bay woman was arrested and charged with:

- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

Both were held in custody for a video court appearance.

The male suspect was remanded into custody to the Thunder Bay District Jail.

The female accused was released from custody and is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on February 3, 2017 to answer to the charge.
