Police identify, arrest assault suspect

Accused is facing charges of aggravated assault, mischief under $5,000 and breach of probation.

THUNDER BAY -- The suspect who allegedly assaulted a 52-year-old man outside the Waverley Resource Library nearly two months ago has been identified and is facing multiple charges.

Thunder Bay police on Tuesday announced a 24-year-old man has been arrested, after they released surveillance footage of the suspect last week.

The alleged assault, which police said happened on June 27 outside the Red River Road library branch, sent the victim to hospital for medical attention. Police have not provided information about the extent of the injuries. 

The accused has been charged with aggravated assault, mischief under $5,000 and breach of probation. He appeared in court and remains in custody awaiting his next court appearance.
