Police identify fatal crash victim

Eighty-seven-year-old Jean Steele died Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 502, 20 kilometres north of Highway 11.

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – Police have identified the name of the person killed on Tuesday in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 502.

In a release issued on Wednesday, Ontario Provincial Police say 87-year-old Jean Steele of Emo, Ont. was confirmed dead at the scene of the crash.

Steele was a passenger in a southbound motor vehicle that collided with a northbound vehicle at about 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, about 20 kilometres north of Highway 11.

The highway was closed for about eight hours while investigators looked into the collision.

Rainy River District Emergency Services, Ornge air ambulances, Watten and Fort Frances Fire departments also responded to the incident.
