THUNDER BAY – A search is underway at a south side park as Thunder Bay police conduct a sudden death investigation.
Police and other emergency personnel had taped off much of the Kaministiquia River Heritage Park Saturday morning, while authorities used a drone to survey the area, after police received reports of what appeared to be a body in the water.
The deceased was believed to be an adult male and has not been identified, the Thunder Bay Police Service said in a release.
Police said they were dispatched to the zero to 100s block of Simpson Street near the park just after 10 a.m.
A police forensics van and Thunder Bay Fire Rescue personnel were on hand Saturday morning, along with numerous marked and unmarked police cruisers.
Firefighters could be seen launching a boat into the river as part of the investigation.
Police asked the public to avoid the area as they continued to hold the scene into the afternoon.
