Police confirmed that officers responded to a call from the Victoria Inn last Saturday night and found an injured male in one of the hotel rooms.
Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say the 53 year old was transported to hospital and listed in critical condition.
Police arrested a 33 year old man in connection with the incident.
Kelsey Lance Charles Jacob of Summer Beaver First Nation was originally charged with aggravated assault.
Police say Jacob remains in custody and charges will be looked at pending further investigation.
Police have not yet released the victim's name.
A post mortem exam has been scheduled.
