UPDATE: Police investigating Donald Street sudden death

THUNDER BAY -- Police are investigating a sudden death near Thunder Bay's city hall. 

Police, in a release issued on Sunday morning, said they were called to the 500 block of Donald Street East at about 5:45 a.m. after receiving reports of an unresponsive individual. 

Firefighters and Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews were also dispatched and the individual, who police have not named, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Police have set up an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death, with the major crimes unit on site. 

Police have since released the scene. The deceased has been identified as an adult woman and the next of kin has been notified. The name of the woman is being withheld out of respect for the family's privacy.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to the 500 block of Donald Street East for reports of an unresponsive individual just after 5:45 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3. 

Firefighters with Thunder Bay Fire Rescue and paramedics with Superior North EMS were also dispatched to the scene. 

The unresponsive individual was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have since established a scene as members of the TBPS’s Major Crimes Unit continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this sudden death. 

The public is asked to avoid the area at this time.
