THUNDER BAY - The Thunder Bay Police Service’s major crimes unit is investigating a social media post describing four suspects who seriously assaulted a man which resulted in his death.

Police say they were notified of a social media post on Thursday, Oct. 8, which described four people committing a serious assault against a lone male victim. The social media post identified the male victim and investigators are reviewing the alleged incident, according to police.

Investigators have learned the Coroner has been advised and has been in communication with the family and hospital, police said.

Due to privacy reasons, police say they are unable to provide further comment to the public.

“The Thunder Bay Police Service remains concerned about the alleged assault described via social media. Investigators strongly encourage anyone who may have information about an assault to contact police,” a statement by Thunder Bay Police said in an email.

Police are also urging potential witnesses who are unwilling to come forward due to mistrust of the police to call the detachment and ask to speak with an Indigenous Liaison officer by calling the Thunder Bay police station at 807-684-1200 and asking for Cst. Bob Simon.
