THUNDER BAY - Thunder Bay police say they have identified a suspect who fled the scene of a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday night.

Officers were dispatched on Wednesday, Aug. 19, just before 11 p.m. following reports of a crash at the corner of Hill Street and Beresford Street, according to a Thunder Bay police spokesperson.

Upon arriving, officers found a red SUV and a black pickup truck with significant damage. Police say the driver of the truck was alone when police arrived.

A police investigation revealed the red SUV was travelling eastbound on Beresford Street at a high rate of speed before the vehicle drove through the intersection at Rupert Street without stopping at a posted stop sign.

When the SUV failed to stop at Hill Street it came into contact with the pickup truck which was travelling northbound, police say.

The female driver of the truck was transported to the hospital. Police believe her injuries were not serious.

A hydro pole at the corner of Hill Street was also left significantly damaged.

Police say the individual who fled the scene has been identified but charges have yet to be laid.
