THUNDER BAY -- City police officers issued about 42 tickets Tuesday to motorists speeding through school zones.
The traffic unit focused their attention on drivers not stopping for school buses picking up children and enforcing the posted traffic speeds of 40 kilometres an hour.
Officers paid attention to areas where bus drivers have reported ongoing problems with motorists failing to stop.
Drivers were obeying the law and stopped for the school buses when their lights were on, but they were not paying attention to their speeds.
One driver was stopped as they were traveling 70 kilometres an hour in a 40 zone.
Police want to remind motorists to be more aware of their speeds in school zones.
