THUNDER BAY — The assault of a worker at a local fast food restaurant is expected to be reviewed for potential hate motivation.

Thunder Bay police said officers were called to the Wendy's restaurant on Memorial Avenue on Sunday afternoon after receiving reports of an assault.

Police said the accused had approached staff behind the counter and shouted at them before attacking one of the employees.

The accused reportedly shouted at the victim to go back to their own country during the incident, police added.

The 43-year-old accused is charged with assault and two counts of failure to comply with a probation order.

He appeared in bail court on Monday and remains in custody with a future appearance date scheduled.
