THUNDER BAY POLICE SERVICE
*************************

Thunder Police Service officers were en route to a call for service just after 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18 when they spotted a pick-up truck on Second Avenue about to cross Fort William Road with heavy traffic.

Police used their cruiser, by pulling in front of the truck, to prevent it from entering the intersection.

Officers approached the driver, who was acting erratically and showing signs of being impaired by drugs.

At this time officers also noticed significant damage on the truck’s front-end.

Further investigation revealed the truck had been involved in several motor-vehicle collisions within 15 minutes of officers intervening.

The driver was arrested and found to be in possession of paraphernalia consistent with drug use and pills.

Police also learned the driver was possibly under the influence of opioids, and there was an active warrant for his arrest.

He was arrested without further incident, but transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further medical assessment and treatment.

A 31-year-old Thunder Bay man is being charged with Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Alcohol and Drugs; Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance; Failure to Comply with a Judicial Release.

The investigation continues.
