Police looking for motorist who struck 12-year-old pedestrian

Police are looking for the driver of a vehicle that struck a 12-year-old girl near the corner of Memorial and Central avenues around 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Police are looking for the driver of a vehicle that struck a 12-year-old girl near the corner of Memorial and Central avenues around 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say they are looking for the woman who was behind the wheel at the time of the collision. 

The victim and a friend were walking home from the mall when the youth was struck by a van or an SUV.

Police say the young victim was attempting to cross the street and was struck on her left side.

The driver stopped and spoke briefly to the female and left the scene.

The youth managed to walk home, but was later transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, where she was treated for minor injuries.

The incident has led police to remind the public that it is the responsibility of every driver to offer assistance in the case of an accident and report the incident to the police.

Police are now urging the driver of this vehicle to contact the Thunder Bay Police Service so the investigation may be concluded.
