Police looking for suspects in Algoma Street statue toppling

Thunder Bay police are looking for two people who toppled a standing statue on Algoma Street earlier this week.

THUNDER BAY – An apparent act of vandalism against a piece of local public art was captured on video.

The video, posted to Youtube, appears to show two individuals pushing over a statue and running away early Wednesday morning.

A Thunder Bay police spokesperson told Newswatch that the incident is under investigation. They are asking members of the public to come forward with any information on the suspects.

City officials said the statue has been moved into storage to be assessed for possible repairs.

There's no word on when it might be reinstalled.

The bronze half-creature wild man statue was first installed in 2016 on Algoma Street near Bay Street. It was vandalized with spray paint just a few weeks later, and then was struck by a vehicle and knocked over in February of 2017.
