Police are looking for a suspicious man who they believe may have tried to lure a 12-year-old boy into his van Monday.

Thunder Bay Police Service officials say the adult male driver of a van asked a 12-year-old boy to enter his vehicle to help him find his missing dog. The boy refused to enter and ran home.

Police say the suspicious man approached the boy shortly after 3:30 p.m. in the 500 block of East Empire Avenue. The boy is a student at Kingsway Elementary school and was approached after getting off his school bus.

Police say officers are now looking for man described as being about 40-years-old, with short black shaved hair and a short scruffy goatee and clean shaven cheeks. He was wearing a reddish sweater at the time of the incident.

The vehicle is described as a lighter turquoise box-shaped van similar to a GMC Safari. Some scratches appeared near the rear hub passenger side. The van had no back of side windows, and its front windows were tinted.

Anyone with information about the suspected vehicle or man is asked to contact the Thunder Bay Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
