The Thunder Bay Police Service is requesting public assistance to identify the suspect involved in a recent robbery.

Thunder Bay Police officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were originally dispatched to Barb’s Laundromat at 213 Algoma Street South at about 7:45 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6 following reports of an armed robbery that had just occurred.

The accused had fled the area prior to police arrival with an undisclosed amount of cash. He left the business on foot in an unknown direction.

Police learned a male had entered the business brandishing a knife and making demands for money.

The suspect is described as being an Indigenous male standing about 5’6” tall with a medium build. The suspect was wearing a winter cap with black and red stripes or a checkered pattern, and a dirty winter jacket at the time of the incident.

The Thunder Bay Police Service’s Break and Enter and Armed Robbery (BEAR) Unit is now leading this investigation. As a result of the ongoing investigation police have obtained surveillance footage featuring the robbery suspect. Images from that footage are being distributed in the hopes someone can come forward and help identify the accused.

If you have any information that could help investigators please call police at 684-1200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online at www.p3tips.com.
