THUNDER BAY – Police have arrested a man they say tried to flee from officers on an all-terrain vehicle.

In a release issued on Thursday, Thunder Bay Police say on March 30 they were dispatched to an area near High Street and Oliver Road, following reports of two males on an ATV observed not wearing helmets.

The vehicle was seen heading south on Memorial Avenue, before the driver pulled into the parking lot of a business. Officers subsequently tried to stop the vehicle, but it sped away before nearly colliding with another vehicle.

Police tracked the suspects and located them in the area of Logan Avenue. After an officer attempted to arrest the two males, grabbing onto one, the officer was assaulted and dragged as the suspects drove away.

Images of the suspects were released and as a result, a suspect was identified and turned himself into police earlier this month.

The 18-year-old was charged with flight from police, dangerous operation, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

He was released with a future court appearance.
