THUNDER BAY – Police have charged a Thunder Bay man with two counts of arson in connection with a January house fire.

Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service were first dispatched to reports of a fire at a residence in the 200 block of Ambrose Street just after 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15.

Firefighters had already arrived at the scene. In a release issued Wednesday, the TBPS said police had also been dispatched “due to the suspicious nature of the fire.”

The fire consumed two large piles of garbage outside the door of the home before spreading to the deck and wall around the home’s entrance, police said.

An investigation led police to charge a 48-year-old Thunder Bay man with one count of arson – disregard for human life and one count of arson – damage to property.

The man was arrested and taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon.

He appeared in bail court on Wednesday and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
