Police, MNR use hunting season to remind people about off-road rule changes

THUNDER BAY -- With hunting season fully underway, people will be seeing a lot more off-road vehicles driving down highways in the region.

THUNDER BAY -- With hunting season fully underway, people will be seeing a lot more off-road vehicles driving down highways in the region.

With new rules and regulations officials were out Friday speaking with the public to make sure everyone is aware.

Officials with the Thunder Bay OPP, Ministry of Natural Resources and Ministry of Transportation were outside of Canadian Tire holding an education session. The new laws allowing ORV's and ATV's on provincial roadways came into place on July 1.

Since 2010, there have been six fatalities related to off-road vehicles in the Northwest region. With hunting season bringing in increased ORV traffic, officials say both riders and drivers need to be aware of the new laws.

Riders must be wearing helmets approved under the new system.
