Police name four accused in firearm disturbance

Arrested face multitude of weapons charges after appearing in court on Tuesday.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers arrested four people from the Toronto area following a recent disturbance involving a firearm.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were originally dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Pearl Street just before 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20 following reports of a disturbance. The disturbance was believed to involve a break in and a firearm.

Suspects fled the area before police arrived on scene.

When police arrived they began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this alleged incident.

As a result of the ongoing investigation – which also involved members of the service’s Major Crimes Unit, K9 Unit, Forensic Identification Unit and Intelligence Unit – police identified and located suspects connected to the Sunday incident.

Four suspects, who were in a motor vehicle together, were taken into custody following a high-risk arrest in the zero-to-100 block of Lake Street in the early afternoon hours of Monday, Oct. 21.

Police located a hand gun inside the vehicle. During the arrests one of the male suspects provided a name to police that further investigation revealed to be a false identity.

Police also seized crack cocaine with an estimated street value of $16,000, Fentanyl with an estimated street value of $5,000 and about $5,000CAD during the arrests.

• Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
• Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
• Tamper with Serial Number of Firearm
• Careless handling of a Firearm
• Possession of Firearm/ Ammo Contrary to Prohibition Order

Jatorri WILLIAMS, 21, of Toronto is charged with:
• Breaking and Entering with Intent
• Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Weapon Obtained by Crime
• Unauthorized Possession of Firearm Licence
• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
• Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
• Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
• Tamper with Serial Number of Firearm
• Careless handling of a Firearm
• Escape Lawful Custody
• Mischief Under $5,000

Jaisha Rina MESQUITO, 19, of Markham is charged with:
• Kidnapping
• Uttering Threats
• Breaking and Entering with Intent
• Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Weapon Obtained by Crime
• Unauthorized Possession of Firearm Licence
• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
• Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
• Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon

Tenisha Crystal SMITH, 21, is charged with:
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

• Possession of Weapon Obtained by Crime
• Unauthorized Possession of Firearm Licence
• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
• Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
• Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
• Tamper with Serial Number of Firearm
• Careless handling of a Firearm

All accused appeared in court Tuesday and were remanded into custody with future appearance dates.
