A local police officer’s hearing will begin in the new year.

The hearing for Thunder Bay Police Service officer Sgt. Jim Mauro will take place Feb. 15-17 in Thunder Bay.

Mauro, who has been suspended with pay since March 26, 2010, is accused of forwarding a letter to the Police Services Board that claimed to have been written by then-Police Association president Mayor Keith Hobbs.

Last month Mauro’s representation provided a doctor’s not stating he needed the hearing delayed by several months because of a medical condition.

The adjudicator at the time said more information was needed to see if the hearing could accommodate Mauro.

The name of the doctor and the nature of Mauro’s illness have been blacked out to the public.

On Wednesday, the adjudicator decided that because no new information had been given, and based on
several similar cases presented by prosecutor Ian Johnstone, the trial would proceed in the new year.

The exact location of the hearing has not been made public at this time.
