THUNDER BAY — The police knew how a crescent works, but the people they were pursuing apparently lacked street smarts.
Members of the Uniform Patrol Branch of the Thunder Bay Police took two men and a woman into custody on various charges after the trio tried to evade apprehension early Monday morning.
The incident happened in the Windsor Street/Clarkson Street area just before 3:30.
An officer had observed an SUV travelling at high speed on Windsor, where the vehicle blew through a stop sign.
After ignoring the officer's attempt to initiate a traffic stop on Clarkson, the driver made a second bad decision when he fled down a crescent.
Knowing there was only one escape route, the officer parked his cruiser at the exit where he observed the SUV pulling into a driveway.
He then approached the vehicle and ordered the occupants to get out of the vehicle, which they did.
Police subsequently discovered an imitation handgun and a quantity of cocaine.
A 40-year-old Thunder Bay man is charged with flight from police, possession of cocaine, possession of a prohibited device, failure to comply with an undertaking, and failure to comply with a release order.
He remains in custody after a bail hearing.
A 41-year-old Thunder Bay man and a 36-year-old Thunder Bay woman are both charged with possession of a prohibited device.
The female accused is also charged with breach of probation.
Both these individuals were released from custody with conditions pending their next court date.
