Local and area police concluded their festive RIDE campaigns, resulting in a number of drunk-driving charges in the Thunder Bay area.
The OPP, Thunder Bay Police Service, RCMP and First Nation police forces held joint and individual RIDE checks throughout the holiday season in an effort to reduce impaired driving.
The campaign started Nov. 27 and wrapped up this past weekend. During that time, more than 38,000 vehicles were checked in the Thunder Bay area. Police charged 24 people with drinking and driving related offences and 25 people were given three-day suspensions.
More than 50 Ontario Traffic Act charges were laid.
Across the region, almost 90,000 vehicles were checked, with about 40 drinking and driving charges and 45 three-day suspensions.
